Pajero Evolution

Question: What homologation special can you buy today that has won one of the toughest, grueling rallies in the world, not once, not twice, but twelve times?
 
This one, right here, the Pajero Evolution, winner of the Paris-Dakar Rally 12 times, with many occasions locking out the podiums 1 to 3. The winning began in 1985, and didn't stop till 2007. This was probably the big daddy the Lancer department looked up to create the Lan Evolution, that would eventually dominate WRC in the 90s.
 
Tossing out the usual diesel units found under a 4WD bonnet, the Pajero Evolution's 3.5L DOHC MIVEC V6 pumps out 276HP at the crank, good for a sub 8sec sprint to 100kph. Sounds slow, but when it takes turbodiesels 10secs or more to get to 100kph, it was a rocket ship. The tough, flared kit on the short wheel based chassis and bespoke rear wing makes the Pajero Evo look like a life size, mean Micro Machine car.
 
With only 2693 ever made, and most equipped with a slush box, this rare manual example is a great investment/fun daily/rally raid 4WD.
